Summer Book Study 2026, Reading Isn’t Optional, Fulfilling the Promise of Literacy for Secondary Students
The Reading League Arizona is proud to join The Reading League Chapter Network in promoting our 2026 Summer Book Study. This free, virtual learning opportunity invites educators across the country to explore what the science of reading tells us about supporting students in grades 4 through 12.

This year’s text, Reading Isn’t Optional, Fulfilling the Promise of Literacy for Secondary Students, features a foreword by Dr. Louisa Moats and offers a clear, research aligned look at the realities of adolescent literacy. Whether you teach in a classroom, lead a building, or support readers through intervention, the study is designed to be both practical and manageable.

What to Expect:
The kickoff event on June 16 features a panel of chapter leaders working directly with adolescent readers, alongside a special appearance by Dr. Louisa Moats. The three follow up sessions explore specific areas of secondary literacy practice in greater depth, including reading comprehension, oral language and writing, and teaching literacy to multilingual learners.

Schedule:
• Kickoff, June 16, 2026, 7 to 8 30 PM ET
• Session 1, July 14, 2026, 7 to 8 30 PM ET
• Session 2, July 21, 2026, 7 to 8 30 PM ET
